Smith & Wesson Model 38 Airweight .38 Special Revolver – 2" Barrel

The Smith & Wesson Model 38 Airweight, also known as the Bodyguard Airweight, is a classic American-made revolver that combines lightweight construction, innovative design, and the renowned craftsmanship of Smith & Wesson. Chambered in .38 Special, this compact revolver features a 2-inch barrel, traditional blued finish, and distinctive shrouded-hammer design, making it a desirable addition for collectors and enthusiasts of vintage Smith & Wesson handguns.

Built on Smith & Wesson's renowned J-frame platform, the Model 38 Airweight features a lightweight alloy frame designed to reduce overall weight without sacrificing its classic revolver styling. Its distinctive shrouded hammer provides a streamlined profile while retaining access to the hammer for traditional single-action operation. The revolver's double-action/single-action mechanism and compact five-shot cylinder reflect the practical engineering that helped establish the Bodyguard series as one of Smith & Wesson's most recognizable designs.

The 2-inch barrel gives the Model 38 its classic snub-nose appearance, while the blued finish complements its traditional styling. The pistol-grip configuration provides a comfortable and familiar feel, adding to the revolver's timeless appeal. Weighing just 0.90 lbs, this Airweight model is notably lighter than many traditional steel-frame revolvers, highlighting Smith & Wesson's commitment to combining compact dimensions with lightweight construction.

Introduced in the 1950s, the Bodyguard Airweight design became an important part of Smith & Wesson's compact revolver heritage. Its unique hammer shroud, lightweight frame, and recognizable J-frame profile continue to make the Model 38 an appealing choice for collectors who appreciate vintage American firearms.
